School Day

Valentine's School Day Times, Assemblies and Lessons.

Our School day starts at 8.50am and finishes at 3.15pm.  Registration is from 8.50am to 9.00am.

Morning Break

At 10.00am, children from Year 1 to Year 6 have a short ‘brain break’ and a quick burst of exercise when we have our daily ‘Wake Up, Shake Up!’ session.

Later in the morning, children in Year 1 and Year 2 have a break from 10.30am – 10.45am.

Older children from 11.00am – 11.15am.

Reception have break times which are quite flexible.  Towards the end of the school year, they will join children in Key Stage 1 to have breaks at set times.

Lunch

Children in Reception have their lunch at 11.50am and their break ends at 1.00pm.

Year 3 - 6 Lunch starts at 12:15pm and finishes for all at 1:00pm.

Afternoon playtimes

All Year groups have an afternoon playtime - times and duration are flexible and judged by the teachers.

Drop-off and collection

At the beginning and end of the school day, parents are encouraged into the playground.  This helps to build up a close relationship between home and school – we want to have good links with all parents.  If normal arrangements have to be altered (e.g. if you are delayed or another person is collecting your child), please let us know.  This avoids any confusion or upset.

Getting to school

To get to and from school, walking is definitely the best option! There are lots of benefits: it’s healthier than travelling by car, it improves the safety of pedestrians and road-users, and it respects nearby residents and parking regulations.

Cycling and Scooting to school is another alternative.  We encourage our children with the help of parents to cycle and scoot into school and we are also a Bike It school member.  We have bike-racks installed in our school grounds for safety storage of all children bikes.

Assemblies

On Monday Years 1 - 6 have a singing assembly with Miss Bandey.

On Tuesday we have a whole school assembly with Ms Filer which has a different theme each week (Presentations of the Assemblies can be found on the school website under the Curriculum Assemblies link).

Recently the School Council have been holding assemblies on how to stay safe.

On Monday or  Wednesday every other week there is a Phase Assembly (Year R, Year 1/2, Year 3/4, Year 5/6) taken by a member of Senior Leadership Team.

On Friday there are Celebration Assemblies in Phase groups where 2 stars of the week are celebrated from each class.

Lessons

Each year group has a project with an outcome which most of their lessons are working towards.  Some lessons are taught discretely, for example Maths, PE, Music, Guided Reading, Phonics etc.

We may also have Science days or RE days where children are immersed in a subject for a day or two to allow for deep learning.

We have 2 specialised PE teachers so each class has 2 hours of PE / Games.

We also have specialised Music teachers - Year 3 have lessons with Miss Bandey every week, Year 4 and 5 are taught to play instruments in our amazing Music on the Map provision from Showcase Performance Company and Year 6 learn Music through IT.

We start every half term with 2 SEAL days where every class look at a particular theme e.g. Anti-Bullying, Falling out and Getting on, New beginnings, and all our work is related to that theme.
