At Valentine Primary School, we believe that Art forms an important part of the curriculum; stimulating pupil’s imagination and creative development. We provide an art curriculum that engages, inspires and challenges all pupils in developing, and extending, the vital skills and knowledge to experiment and create meaningful artwork.
Through studying the work of a broad range of artists, designers and craft-makers, we expand the experiences of children and enable them to express individual creativity and experimentation, while aspiring to emulate the work of renowned artists. These meaningful opportunities to develop cultural capital support pupils’ appreciation of how art reflects and shapes both history and culture. Children will empathise with the subject matter and begin to interpret art in new ways.
Through our Art lessons, children reflect on and evaluate their artwork enabling them to make changes, to keep improving and produce a final piece of art they are proud of. We believe this will develop confident artists.
In each key stage, children will learn the skills of: drawing, painting, printing, collage, textiles, digital art and sculpture. They will learn about colour, pattern, texture, shape, form and space. Each year will build upon prior knowledge to enable children to refine their skills throughout their 7 years at Valentine.
